Afternoon tea
I love nothing more than sitting down in the afternoon with a pot of tea and a nice biscuit or cake, but this Sunday I had an especially nice afternoon tea. I had been to York to visit my friend Emma and we were so excited to see macaroons in the window of Betty's! Betty's is a legendary and traditional cafe in Yorkshire, that hasn't changed much since it first opened in 1919. The food is amazing and the queues for their afternoon tea get SO long! I had to try these macaroons. I was a macaroons virgin. The best one was definitely the chocolate one, because I am a bit of a chocaholic, but the lemon one was also particularly good with a lemon curd filling. They were crunchy, chewy and tasty. I have no other macaroons to compare them to, but they were rather delicious! Let's see if Laduree's offerings are any better when I go to Paris in a month!

ReplyDeleteAre you going to Paris? I'm going next week, I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThe other week I spoke to a lovely French man, at Taste Festival, who informed me that Pierre Herme is better than Laduree, though I reserve judgement because Laduree is pretty amazing.
I'm also going to Paris!!! but I'm going at the end of this month, can't wait!!!! Definitely keen to sample Laduree (can't have much else, probably, due to the old wheat intolerance). I went to York Sixth Form, how exciting that Betty's now do macaroons!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei have been craving a macaroon for weeks! those look fabulous! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm just back from Paris! i love macaroons, I had them for the first time a couple of weeks ago actually! I think the red ones are my faves, I was expecting them to taste funny with all the colourins, but they were divine!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can try to bake them yourself http://www.mercotte.fr/2008/03/20/desperatly-seeking-macarons/
ReplyDeletePierre Hermé is also very famous for the chocolate http://www.pierreherme.com/data/catalogue.pdf
We don't have any good bakeries around here, its a shame. I've never tried a macaroon either and can't actually imagine what they taste like! I'd really like to try a lemon one though, I love lemon cakes and lemon curd is amazing. Yum! Itrs always an added bonus when food is pretty too :)
ReplyDeletethese look delish!
ReplyDeleteit looks perfect! seriously :) too pretty for words.
ReplyDeletei can't seem to find maccarooons anywhere! those look quite delicious though. I found a recipe but it was pretty much the most complicated thing I've ever seen...

I've never tried macarons, but they look so good!
ReplyDeleteI really should take the time to have afternoon tea more often. I suppose I would if I had such a lovely tea set. I asked for macarons for my birthday, but my mom doesn't seem to know what they are. I guess I'm going to have to track them down on my own...
ReplyDelete4 pm is my favorite time - Mum and I both get cups of cardamom tea with evaporated milk (to make it thick and creamy) and if we've been baking, we have a slice of almond cake or some ginger cookies. Heavenly!
ReplyDeleteBetty's sounds wonderful. I wonder if they have one in London?
This all looks so nice.Oh macaroons..they look so jummy. I have never seen them in real life tho.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! I love all the china cups .x.

ReplyDeleteLaduree macaroons are incredible, but so expensive. The ones you bought look just as delicious in my opinion. Plus, they come in a nice package too.

ReplyDeletei had never tasted macarons until my visit to Paris last November for the first time! They are the dreamiest dessert I've ever tried and ever since I've been finding little spots that sell them here in Montreal!
