Giveaway!

blog giveaway

I promised you all a little gift from Paris, to celebrate my blogiversary, so here it is! I picked up this Paris Style book from the Taschen shop on the Rue de Buci, just round the corner from our hotel. The 2 magnets were purchased from the cute little souviner shops along the Quais of the left bank. I also purchased one for myself which is now on my fridge. I love the vintage style of them.

blog giveaway

I will also throw in this Festvial&Co poster that I picked up as a freebie from Shakespeare & Co. I got one for myself too and you can see it on my wall here! I like it; it makes me feel literary and clever although I didn't even go to the festival... Oh well.

To enter, simply leave a comment telling me about your favourite holiday! Winners will be chosen on 5th August, 12pm BST, so get your entries in now!

  1. I love Paris. I was lucky to spend 4 days there one spring for my birthday. I got my haircut, bought a dress and sat in cafes watching people walk by. I hope I get the chance to spend more time there one day.

My favorite vacation, though, was to Saltspring Island, B.C. for my honeymoon. The busdriver that drove my husband to school when he was a kid happened to live there and escorted us all over, introducing us to her friends and favorite places. I felt enfolded into a beautiful community and the trees are stunning.

    Happy Bloggiversary!

  2. my favorite would be last summer. i ran away from home to traveling to 3 countries in a week. Singapore, Malaysia, then Thailand. it was very challenging and so fun. tho much things are mess up, cause it wasnt well planned, i never regret it. i wont ever forget the trip.

  3. My favourite vacation was also to France, but to Cannes when I was 18. A group of school friends and I went and stayed in a tiny apartment that was really too small for all of us and ate pasta every day to save money. Despite the lack of personal space and the boring food however, it was our first "grown up" holiday and we loved every minute of it!

  4. My favorite would have to be my trip to the UK with my choir. We got to sing in many famous cathedrals, and I even was chosen to be interviewed on BBC radio! :)

But, what made this trip truly special was when we sang at a small parish one Sunday morning. One of the little old men there was so impressed with us that he gave us his entire stamp collection, and a copious amount of letters written to and from his family members during the world wars. Can you imagine!?

  5. My favourite holiday was Switzerland. We drove through through the mountains and ended up in a really small, hidden village. The fact that not many people have been there (interlaken) makes me feel like its my little secret.
We got to wander through mountins and caves. It was beautiful.

  6. Haha I have a few posters from theather productions I didn't went to, just because they make me look cultivated (I like to think I am, though)

Mmm my favourite holiday would be... Senegal, two years ago. I went with my dad, and we usually don't get along so well, but everything went suprisingly good there. The country itself is STUNNING - it's definitely the most beautiful African country I've been to so far. The population is extremely friendly as well, not as clingy as they usually are in North Africa.

  7. My favourite holiday was this time last year in Vietnam and Cambodia. I have fantastic memories of riding on motorbikes and little kids running out from their houses to highfive us as we went by, eating with locals on children's plastic stools, exploring one of the 7 Wonders of the World, getting drunk in backpacker bars, massages, Pad Thai, Banana pancakes, Puppet shows, long long bus rides, French cafes and mojitos, pool and card games, camels, elephants and bicycles.

    Brillant.

  8. Oh how sweet! My favourite holiday ever was a trip to Venice with some friends, we were all 17 and spent our days roaming around the streets, finding crumbling tiny bridges and getting lost. We spent our evenings getting high and tipsy on a beach just outside of Venice with giant pizzas and stars everywhere. Oh to be 17 and in Venice, nothing quite like it!

  9. Hey!
My favourite vacation would have to be when my grandparents took me and my twin sister to Europe. We went to many different places but my favourite place was venice. It was so beautiful and all of the buildings were just so colourful and majestic looking. Venice is a busy yet peaceful city because there are no cars, only little boats. On of the funniest memories was when my sister and I went into the large town square and fed the pigeons. You would hold food in your hand and they would literally fly onto your arm and eat the food right out of your hand!

    happy blogiversary!

  12. My favorite holiday was a few months ago when I went to New Orleans, Louisiana with my grandmother, of all people! It was just the two of us, and it was absolutely wonderful. New Orleans has so much rich culture and architecture. We even got to stay at an old (supposedly haunted!) hotel in the middle of the French Quarter! We would wake up each morning and walk to the Cafe du Monde (which just in and of itself is heavenly), then spend the day doing whatever we pleased!

New Orleans is a truly magical city, and I can't wait to go back.

  13. My favourite holiday was a week away for fun in the sun with my 3 best friends in 2008. We went to Cyprus and had a great time, we didn't exactly get a proper taste of the local culture with the 2 for 1 cocktails and sunbathing but it was a well deserved rest, in the future we can look back and remember how we were so carefree! Lots of private jokes and memories which will last forever!
I really want to go travelling after I finish my PGCE and NQT year (phew!) to America, NZ, Australia, Japan and through Europe.
I've never been to Paris and I'm so jealous! Another blogger I follow (Flying Saucer) has just been too and along with your photos it all looks so amazing and romantic!

  14. I like the magnets, nice souvenirs of Paris.
My favorite holiday is a trekking trip in the Isle of Skye: so peaceful and lovely landscapes.

  15. My favourite holiday was probably my school trip to France in my 4th year a high school. We went to Chamonix and spent time in the Alps. Although we had to fill in work sheets about glaciers and georgaphy, the scenery was still stunning.
We also got to go over to Switzerland where we got to swim in some natural geothermal pools. We spent a night in Paris and got a quick look at all of the famous landmarks which wasn't enough for me but was still absolutely amazing! And we got to spend the day in Disney.

It was my first trip away without my parents so it was a bit of a growing up thing but part of the fun was having so much fun being with my friends all of the time! We'd have stupid competitions and played a lot of board games.

I've been to New York and Spain a lot and am going to Paris in October but this is probably one of the most fun holidays I've had.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I guess everyone has a different definition of "holiday", I've never been on holiday with my parents & I've never been on holiday abroad. A holiday for me is just getting away form the place I live at the moment.

So my favourite holiday would have to be the first time I went to my home town of Glasgow on my own. I spent most of my time with family, having a laugh & getting used to the patter. The best night I had there was when my cousin took me out for a drive in his car. We rolled the windows right down and played out Clubland 11 at full volume. We went home and watched a Scottish comedy called "Still Game", and when I didn't feel like sleeping he took me back out in the car again, even though he had work in the morning.

Seeing Glasgow by night was amazing and had it not been for that night I might never have seen how beautiful a city like Glasgow can be with its lights sparkling in the night sky.

  17. Hi Helen! I just discovered your blog and am absolutely in love with it! I love your quirky adorable hat in the header, you have a unique sense of style (and I clicked back on the post about your bedroom, wow the paint colors are amazing!), and I am always baking so I appreciate the recipes. I cannot wait to read more, would you like to trade links?

ps I'm jealous you went to Paris

  18. my favourite holiday (so hard to choose, I love travelling!) was probably my trip to New York with my mum last year - we stayed for ten days and had the most amazing time. mainly filled with shopping, theatre, and exploring central park.
We also went on a day trip to New Haven and did a tour of Yale - we've both always been fascinated with the whole 'Ivy League' thing! It was great because it was spontaneous and we did exactly what we wanted to do - which, luckily, is usually the same thing!

  19. So glad you had a nice time, Paris is so beautiful. I've only ever been in February and once in December so it would be nice to see in the summer. Although December in Paris (the week before Christmas) was pretty magical.

My favorite holiday though was when I went to Tokyo for two weeks in 2007. I met up with my boyfriend out there who was halfway through a round the world trip and it was so great to see him and spend time with him in a culture we both really love. Tokyo is just amazing, the little shops, the beautiful gardens but most of all the people. They are so kind and helpful, everyone we met was just too nice could hardly believe it. You should go some day if you get a chance, I know you'd especially love all the cute little boutiques.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hmmm favourite holiday.... I'd love to say Tokyo (it was amazing!!) but actually, Cornwall 2005, I learnt I was good at windsurfing and I had a place I could relax and just be tired in the evenings, which was great because I was waiting for my A level results to see if I'd got into Oxford!!

  21. So many people I know are going to Paris! I'm dying.

My favourite holiday... I don't usually go on vacation unfortunately. However, once on stopover to Taiwan when I moved from Australia to Canada we went to the nightmarket there and it was fabulous big-city stuff. I loved every minute of it :)

  22. Wow, what a cool giveaway! I think my favourite holiday was when I was quite little and I went to Spain with my parents, sister and grandparents. It wasn't really anything out of the ordinary really but it was a pretty big adventure for me at the time. Next year I am going to Thailand though, I'm so excited!

    P.S. I gave you an award (:

  23. My favorite holiday would have been my best friend's birthday. I made spaghetti and the beet root cookies I made from the recipe you had here as a request from him. We went out to a somewhat secluded beach, ate good food and just soaked up the sun. It was lovely. I guess technically his birthday is not a real holiday, but it was the most fun I've had since summer school started.

  24. My favorite holiday was in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
It is such a wonderful cultural melting pot with an old-world charm. Narrow cobblestone lanes lined with an eclectic mix of shops cross with major paved streets that showcase couture, fine dining, and the more risque nightlife.
The people were so friendly and helpful, and the b&b we stayed at was right out of a decorator magazine.

  25. My favorite holiday was spent traveling around Spain with my boyfriend in 2005. On the same trip, we got to spend 2 nights in London, the city where we met many years ago. We went back to the neighborhood where my flat was, and the restaurant where we had our first date, and so it was very nostalgic and sweet for both of us!

  26. Happy Bloggy Birthday! oh, the souvenirs do look lovely:)

I definitely had the best vacation ever just a month ago. Not only because I get to travel to London, Rome, Paris, Venice, Pisa, Florence, and Edinburgh (destinations which I have only dreamed about since a lil girl), but because I get to visit these lovely places with my bf whom I haven't seen for about 9 months. I can't express how wonderful it is to spend 3 lovely weeks with him.

We're now planning a 2nd trip next year, yay!

  27. my favorite holiday would be last September. my friends and i went for hiking to one mountain in Java named Gede Mountain. to reach the summit, we have to hike and walk (it's more than 2000 m above the sea!) from 2am. it was SO tired, but when i arrived at the summit, all the tired was disappeared. the scenery is WOW! since then, i love mountain, and i would love to hike another one someday.

I've always been in love with the US and standing in front of the Grand Canyon, going through Las Vegas, shopping in L.A was everything I wanted. I'm saving to go back!!! I love it soooooooooooo much!!!!

  30. My favourite holiday was probably the month long stay over in Europe I had with my Mum back in 2004. We went to Paris, Avignon, Cinque Terra, Venice, Bellagio (unexpectedly since we took a detour around Lake Como to have a look after we picked up the rental car, and I managed to bust a tire within the first hour. When we finally made it to Bellagio it was like 6pm, and we were STUFFED! we stayed 2 glorious days), Tuscany, Orvieto, Postiano & Rome. Best holiday I've ever had! We had a blast, and there was no worry on my behalf of when it all finished, finding a job over there, because we just went for a month. (I'd previously traveled to Europe and moved to London afterwards.) I took photos of my little Panda Bear everywhere we went, and they are my favourite photos to look back on :)

My second favourite was probably when I backpacked through Canada & Ireland in 2006. I randomly decided to travel one afternoon, and I had the best time :)

  31. I've been to Paris 4 times now and loved it so much each time, no other place compares and I would go back again and again. I even went twice within the space of 6 months, that's how much I love it.

I loved the café culture, sitting outside bars until late at night and watching the World go by, walking along the Seine at night and watching the river boats, I love it all. My favourite time was when I went last September, and found a very hip bar in Montmartre, which I ended up going to several times and struck up conversations with the local young Parisiens.

My favourite thing was the velibs, which I used so much and cycled all over Paris on, so quick and convenient.

  36. my favourite holiday was Liverpool, last year, where I spant about 4 days with my boyfriend.

It was our first week together so all the awkwardness, clumsiness, giggling and romance in general made it the perfect holiday.

We went to a very windy beach, went to see the squirrels but havnt seen any (there was a sig saying they had squirrelpox!), ate pink cake, had coffe, got out on the wrong train station, went to a lovely record store and walked randomly around.

All of the things that went wrong (the squirrels, the train, me falling and tripping all the time) were funny and became some of my dearest memories. And made that holiday the most perfect ever.

I even made an animation about it as a Christmas present for him!

    Happy bloggerversary! :D

  37. My favorite holiday was to NYC when I was 13. I don't even know why I liked it so much but I think of that vacation a lot.

I'm going to London with my bf soon. It's our first vacation together and I hope this will be my new favortie haha

  38. My boyfriend whisked me off to Budapest when we first started going out, and we spent 4 February days there, which coincided with both our birthdays. It was so nice, sunny and bright, but absolutely freezing so I got to wear all my favourite things like my warm fleece lined boots and my wool coat. And I picked up lots of babooska dolls and flavoured schnapps for very little money. It was amazing and I would love to go back one day.

Oh, and I saw a man with a fur hat poop in the street. You don't see that around these parts.

  40. Paris is absolutely one of my favorite places on this earth. I took a trip around europe solo and paris si just so intoxicating. my favorite holiday is thanksgiving....the food, the warmth of a home full of family and friends, no time limit, no clocks to watch, just a day to enjoy- be grateful and drink mulled red wine. The history and the tradition are perfect...gravy, warm cranberries and stuffing.....sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  41. ah but i see you mean vacaton- mine would definitly have to be when I traveled around Europe for three months by myself....it was the most incredible experience. I ate macaroons for breakfast, champagne for lunch, and had trysts in with beautiful Dutch boys in Amsterdam. I THREW OUT MY ITINIRARY and followed my heart. It was perfection.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh, how pretty! I went to that Taschen shop when I was in Paris as well... but I picked up a book on Moroccan style instead (I wish I'd taken the Paris one as Moroccan style is something I'm not into anymore)...

Anyway, as for my favourite holiday, I think it was Budapest three years ago where I met up with the guy who is now my boyfriend for the first time. We wandered the beautiful city of Budapest together, fell in love and also travelled to Vienna which was only a train ride away. It was such a lovely holiday, and I would really like to go back.

  44. My favorite holiday is when me and the man went to New York City! I loved it so much, and it felt like home more than a vacation. I shopped at H&M the first time, saw Guns N Roses at Maison Square Gardens, spent a whole day in Central Park ad another half day in The Met. The best was seeing the Imagine memorial at Strawberry Fields for John Lennon. I hope to live in that city one day it was o incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oops, I forgot to tell you about my favorite holiday. It was definitely going to Scandinavia last summer. The mix of old and new really struck me there. I suppose much of the rest of Europe has that mix, too, but it just seemed so natural and relaxed there. The best part of the trip, though, was all the amazing people I met over there.

  46. What a sweet giveaway!
My favorite holiday was when I got to spend New Years with my sister on the Big Island of Hawaii (where she was studying and teaching at the time). I went hiking with her and her friends out on the lava at night with the moon to guide us and watched the active lava flow as our fireworks. We reached a spot where there was a vent in the ground and we could see the active lava flowing beneath our feet (that place is gone now, part of the shelf broke off). Then the next day we snuck into a private community to go swimming in the natural hot springs by the ocean. It was all so beautiful and I left exhausted, a little burnt and exhilarated. Oh, and jealous that she got to continue living there...

  49. my favourite...CORNWALL! why spend lots going abroad and getting hot and sweaty when you have white sand and blue seas a few hours drive away?!

  50. Paris.

I know, I know. Terribly cliche. But after being to the country of love, macaroons, fashion... and yummy boys over 10 times, it never loses it's wow factor.

My favourite trip however was when I was invited to visit some designer showrooms there during Paris Fashion Week. It really opened my eyes to the city and I felt like I'd walked into a French movies (I'm ridiculously obsessed with French. So much, that I've actually began to understand the language)

From cycling to my favourite macaroon shop to attending fashion events and mingling with the French fashion scene... it was such a surreal experience which I will hold dear to me forever.

  54. I wish I could go to paris! I've never even been out of the country (U.S.) Speaking of, when I read "Tell me about your favorite holiday" I was thinking of New Years, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, stuff like that. hahah silly me. But anyway, my favorite vacation was two summers ago. I went to the beach with my friends Shelby and Brittany. We went to the Jersey Shore, the beaches in Jersey are sometimes fun, depending on where you go. We ended up going to the most dull beach without and boardwalk or anything. It ended up raining the whole week we were there so we used the time making prank phone calls, moving the pictures in the rental house around (so they were hanging off walls), piercing ears, gluing candies to the plants. Random stuff like that. It was the funniest vacation of my life. And to end it we went to a the infamous Wildwood boardwalk in a different town one night and made new friends and got lost. Ultimately, we got kicked out of the house, but it was so fun, I'd do it all again. Not really like a normal vacation, but it definitely was my favorite!

My favourite holiday ever was a camping trip to Austria. It was beautifully hot and we combined sight seeing with swimming in natural lakes, walking through mountains (and going down a mountain path on some kind of skateboard/bike mutation) and white water rafting on body boards.

Writing about it makes me want to go back NOW.

  57. My most favorite vacation was very recent, actually! I spent the week in San Francisco with my best friend and now-boyfriend Chris. We had a hotel in the absolute best location - just a block away from the Museum of Modern Art, Union Square, the park, Chinatown, and so on. It was amazing - we saw everything, from the Golden Gate Bridge to Japantown to the beach to Marin County! And I even got to meet online friends! It was by far the most relaxing, fun, amazing vacation ever.

Sounds like you had a blast in Paris! I'm awfully jealous. :D

  58. my favourite holiday was an art trip to new york with some classmates during my a-levels. the two other girls on the trip shared a bed so that i wouldn't have to have my own room in the ymca, and we spent every day eating pretzels, visiting galleries and trying to dry beckie's ugg boots with her hairdryer :P it was wonderful; new york in february is constant snow and the galleries and sightseeing together with getting to know a new group of people was really wonderful.

  59. My favorite holiday of all time was the one I took to Madrid, Spain.
I had been studying in London and a friend and I traveled to Spain to visit some friends who were there for the week.
The moment I got there, I sprained my ankle... very badly, a thing you think would've ruined the trip. But somehow it didn't. I limped all over Madrid, learning the history and seeing the many famous sites. I went on a walking tour (it almost killed me but it was definitely worth it, we saw the world's oldest restaurant!), I soaked up the sun in the Puerta del Sol, ate ice cream in Retiro Park and I even went to a salsa club (and danced with a very flirtatious spanish man... well, I stood there and moved my arms.)
It was the best trip I've ever taken and I wouldn't change a single thing about it... even the sprained ankle. Having that injury during the trip taught me to make the absolute best of things. And I did.
It was just a fantastic, fantastic experience.

    ReplyDelete
  60. PS- Two weeks after the trip to Madrid, I went to Paris and I absolutely loved it.
I took the 700 steps up the Eiffel Tower... on that still sprained ankle and it was so amazing.
    I loved Paris.
I'm glad you had a great time on your trip!
