Wearing on Wednesdays

wednesday 11th - more practical than pretty
boots - topshop
skirt - vintage
t-shirt - zara
cardi - zara

This past week has been a bit crazy - I had 2 assignments due in last week, combined with terrible cold which had me in bed all day last Tuesday and going to London at the weekend - I was feeling slightly frazzled. Still, on Wednesday I made the effort to actually get dressed (unlike on Tuesday, my duvet day). I did feel better, but I went for practicality over prettiness. I wore my trusty old boots to protect my feet from the rain (I HATE getting wet feet so much!) and my old vintage polka dot skirt which is the comfiest skirt ever. I carried myself along to the library to finish off my last assignment, still dosed up with cold relief tablets. I do hate this time of year because of all the colds I seem to get.

Anyway, yes. I am all better now, recovered from my cold and a busy weekend in London and today I'm going to spend catching up with blogs, sorting out photos, drinking tea and catching up with some uni work too.

What do you like to wear for practical reasons? Do you ever find yourself wearing less-pretty clothes in the winter? That's what I feel like sometimes because the weather rules out certain items of clothing! However, I know some people prefer winter because of layering. What do you prefer?

  1. my "practical" outfits usually involve one of my favourite dresses and a black sweater/cardigan. and in winter i add as many pairs of tights and socks as i need :D i'm really not the one whose top priority is comfort:D
how was your trip to london?

  2. I tend to pull out the boots and old trainers in winter since I have a 15 minute walk to work in the rain and wet socks and trousers aren't excellent. For just going to the pub or uni though the practical outfit because a dress/skirt with my boots so I can wear leggings as tights and be extra cosy in the leg department.

  3. I love your skirt! Good to know you're feeling well now.

I'm pretty bad with winter clothing. I find it really hard to dress "pretty" in winter because most of my pretty outfits fall into the spring/summer category. I'd just wear sweaters and *shudder*.. jeans. Thank goodness winter is over (for Australia, that is).

  4. love that outfit! I find myself trying to dress for warmer weather constantly at the moment, then having to put on hundreds of pairs of socks and cardigans constantly!

  6. I'm really growing to prefer fall and wintertime for clothes. Layering is just too much fun to pass up.

Also, I'm discovering that most of my skirts and dresses can be made cold-weather appropriate with the addition of sweater tights.

  8. Lovely outfit :D I totally know what you mean, and I tend to go with a skirt, t-shirt (loyalarmy.com have seriously cute ones that I tend to favour) and cardi combo too. That or leggings and a big jumper. Get well soon! xx

  10. You look cute and comfy, and I'm so glad you're better now! Those little boots are so adorable - they look like the perfect pair.

I really love dressing for the cold, and I think I prefer it, because I love lots of layers! Cardis, jackets, giant scarves, tights...etc.
I do think it's harder to wear "pretty" clothes in the winter, because everything ends up covered up except for your coat so it's easy to just say "oh well, no one will see it". (so I guess the key is to have lots of lovely coats!)

  11. jeans! I hate wearing jeans unless I really cant face getting dressed properly, and its so shit outside today. so jeans it was.

makes me feel frumpy and pants!

Considering you're in your practical clothes, you look good!x

  12. I tend to find myself wearing jeans much more often - and less high heels! I hate wearing jeans, but I also hate being cold so sometimes comfort wins :(

I really like your polkadot skirt with your red cardigan - such a lovely classic combination!

  13. I hate summer clothes, winter is much better for me clotheswise. And I love my boots, so I don't mind if I have to wear them to keep my feet dry.

    Love the skirt!

  15. I have to say I love dressing for Fall/Winter because of the layers. I love pretty brightly colored coats and scarves and boots and wooly tights. Actually, I think my Winter wardrobe is brighter than my Summer clothes!

  16. You look so great! This is one of my favourite clothing combinations - high waisted skirt, t-shirt, cardigan, tights, boots. Perfect.

I adore winter style - I find it loads easier than faffing about with strapless things, flip flops and too-short shorts in the summer! My practical favourites would be my denim pencil skirt, chunky cardigans and dresses with tights and boots.

    Love your blog!

  17. Lovely outfit again this week. In the winter my mother makes me go for practical over fashionable, but if I had my choice it would be the other way around! (:

  18. I actually find myself wearing more skirts and dresses for the holidays because of tights and pretty coats.
A lazy outfit for me is just jeans and a sweater but you look so cute in your outfits, i can't imagine you being practical!

  19. That skirt is so pretty, great find.

This winter I've been wearing flat brogues to keep my feet dry in the rain but they won't be much good once it gets really cold and frosty.
Winter is the best because you get to wear lovely winter coats, stylish hats and wooly tights. I'd be set adrift without 120 denier tights and a black beret. I always feel unprepared and underdressed in summer but thats probably because British summers are so fleeting.

  22. I love that shirt! I think you pull off practical and pretty quite well. I've been going for practical lately, too. Shoes that keep my feet warm and dry are a must.

  23. If I had more clothes to layer with, I'd probably like dressing up in the winter more. I just need to find a good blazer, and I'll probably be good.
