22

189/365

It was my birthday on Friday! 22. A year ago I was getting ready for my graduation, packing my bags to go to Paris with Scott and turning 21. This year was slightly more low key, although we were also celebrating the fact that I am starting my first full time adult job tomorrow, as a Librarian in my local library. I feel like a real grown up now! Although I am still technically a student because I'm completing my dissertation part time (which is great because I can still get student discounts hee!)

For my birthday me and Scott went for a little picnic to a local estate that has lovely gardens and a cute petting zoo. My favourite animals were the pygmy goats, I would love a pet one to keep my lawn nice and trim! Then we went strawberry, raspberry & blackcurrant picking and spent the evening watching Mad Men and drinking elderflower wine. It was lovely.

On Twitter the other day I was debating going on an infinite blog hiatus, as starting my new job will make it rather difficult to keep updating my blog frequently. I shall see how it goes, as I have days off during some weeks and mornings off when I work late nights so I'll try to adapt some blogging schedule into that. I am starting my new job tomorrow and it's very exciting but a bit scary at the same time! Am I an adult now?

Oh and I am SO SO happy that Spain won the World Cup! I have been cheering them on right from the start (even when England were still in it, because being half Spanish I could choose either to support and knew England would be rubbish). There were some points when I thought they wouldn't quite manage it, but they really deserved it and I just wish I was with my family in Valencia celebrating now!

How are you all anyhow? And also do any bloggers who work full time have any tips on how to keep up with blogging too? I really want to try to keep at it!

  1. Congratulations on being a fully fledged librarian!

I work full time (more than as work is crazy busy at the moment) and it is difficult to find the time to blog sometimes. It's almost like having another full time job! I tend to either to do it in my lunch hour (I'm lucky as have full internet access at work) or late at night.

  3. Happy birthday! I'm sure you'll be fine in 'the adult world', you seem very organized, and it is not difficult to find time for the things you enjoy!

  4. Happy belated Birthday!

I know exactly how you feel, its so hard to juggle blogging with other commitments but I would be so sad if you stopped all together. Keep going, infrequent blogging is better than none at all :)

  5. I work full time and find it really hard to get into the flow of blogging. I say that but I also think sometimes i've out grown blogging in general and I can't find my way back into the flow of it all. My blog seems to lack what it has. But it is doable, if you set aside that half an hour every day or every other and just add to it as and when.

Good luck with your new job!

  7. Happy birthday and good luck with the new job! I've just started working full-time over the past few weeks after finishing uni and it's definitely difficult trying to fit things in, especially regular blogging. Like somebody else said - the occasional blog post is definitely better than none at all. It might be hard at first but over time you'll probably get into a routine and it'll be easier to find time to post - I know I for one would miss reading your blog, so keep with it if you can!

  9. Happy birthday! I do have to say, you have inspired me to look into the librarian work force. I'm sure it's tons of work, but from what I've seen in your blog, it looks like a blast.

  11. Happy belated birthday, Helen! Your birthday sounds wonderful and relaxing - especially with the berry picking and the sweet goats.

I had no idea that you were half Spanish - that's really cool! Congratulations on the world cup then :)

  13. Belated Happy Birthday! And congrats on your job :D

I work full time at the moment and have found it hard to keep up with blogging, but I've tended to keep up with it by making notes during the day while commuting so it doesn't take as long to write in the evening. Good luck, I hope that you are able to continue blogging :)

  14. Happy belated birthday! It sounds like you had a lovely day. And congrats on having a full-time job! As for how to manage work and blogging, I wish I had some good advice for you. Blogging doesn't take me more than around 30-60 minutes, so I don't find it hard to find the time to blog. Replying to comments is what takes the longest, but I try to do a few at a time whenever I have a spare few minutes! I hope you don't stop blogging, I love your blog so much :)

  15. Happy birthday and congratulations!

I watched the Spain final at 0230 Manila time, then rushed right to school. No sleep, but I loved seeing Fabregas make such an impact in the last thirty-forty minutes.

  17. I work full time but if I have a few spare hours I get a few posts ready to go then you can just take a few mins each day to publish them. Its kinda cheating tho , but it works for me.
Love your outfit btw. So cute!

  22. Keep blogging up if you can! I'd miss you! Congrats on the job though, very exciting news! You're going to rock it and certainly be the most stylish librarian ever!

  23. congrats on the full time job! I imagine it would be challenging to keep up with your blog, especially in the beginning when you're still in the adjusting stage, but I expect it will get easier, and you can still update this when you find some free time.

lol, it's a shame that England were rubbish (I always support England!), but yes - a well deserved victory for Spain!

  24. Happy birthday and huge congrats on the job!

I work full time and I don't find blogging too time consuming. Commenting is a little tricky (mainly cos my laptop at home won't work with comments) so I do that on my breaks at work, but actually writing a blog entry doesn't usually take me very long so I'll tend to do it whilst watching tv.

  26. Happy belated birthday, sounds like you had a great day!
Good luck with continuing posting on the blog. I don't know how people manage to have a full time job plus have extra time for blogging on top of all your 'real life' social commitments. Although I'm sure plenty of people manage, it must get easier once you're settled into a routine!

i work full time, and i find that i still blog about things that i am really excited about. i think we find time for the things we love to do :)

  28. Massive congratulations about your birthday and the new job! how very exciting!

Yay for Spain! I was rooting for them :D

And I work full time, and I try and be quite regimented when it comes to blogging. I try and blog once every two days and factor in to my after-work diary like a social event. So I'll see friends/go out 3 or 4 times a week and the other nights I blog! It seems to work pretty well :)

  29. Happy Birthday! Sounds like a lovely day!

I don't know about you but when I first started work by the time I got home in the evening I could hardly move from the sofa, let alone think about blogging! But I promise you it gets easier!

I don't get as tired anymore (six months in!) and I've settled into more of a blogging rhythm. I find sunday evenings have become my major time for writing, and I normally get at least a couple of posts written then to schedule for during the week.

Often I'm a week ahead of my blog - taking photos in the week then uploading the and writing and posting them the week after!

  30. Congratulations and belated happy birthday! I do hope you don't give up blogging completely, I love your blog and your photos!

I work more than full time, I do 9-7 or 8 most days as my job requires a lot of overtime. What I often do is put together blog posts when I have free time - normally on Friday nights in - and then either save them and finish putting them together when I'm ready to post, or actually complete them all in one go and schedule them in. That's what I did tonight as I wanted to post that entry, but I knew I'd be decorating my new house late every night this week. Scheduling is sooo useful.

  31. Happy belated birthday! Your celebration sounds lovely. Congratulations on the new job! I'd say maybe start off blogging on the weekends and maybe timing your posts to publish throughout the week. Then gradually build up to every other day as your adjust your schedule.

  36. I find that blogging is a great escape from the mundane feelings 9-5 can often bring! When I have a rough day I enjoy being able to write about it or write about something totally unrelating to how exhausting work can be!

That said, congratulations again on the new job and I hope everything goes well!
