Old favourites

Sometimes there is nothing nicer than baking an old favourite. Nigella Lawson's malteser cake is one of my old favourites. I don't bake it often but whenever I do everyone always says 'Oh yes, I love that cake, we haven't had it in ages!'. I think that is a sign of a good cake! If I baked it every weekend I don't think we would be as mad on it.

It was my Mum's birthday so of course I had to bake her a cake. Aimee had reminded me of this cake the other week when she posted about her baking it.

Malteaser cake

I love the contrast between the creamy brown icing and the deep brown cake! I actually started cutting it up before even taking a photo of the entire cake, whoops! So unlike me. My family always laugh that I take more photos of food than of people, but that isn't 100% true! Honest! I have lots and lots of family photos too. Just more photos of cake than the average person.

As an added bonus, here is an archival photograph of the Malteser cake from 2 years ago. I think I have been making it for nearly 5 years now, such a good cake! This photo also reminds me that I need to use my Nikon D40 again more and stop stealing Scott's Sony NEX3...

How is everyone's week going? I think this week will be quite stressful in work (budget cuts & consultations *groan*) but I am also seeing my friend who lives in London at the moment later in the week which I'm really looking forward to!

  3. Ooh I like it with the crushed Malteasers around the edge - very effective!

Hope work's not too stressful - I was in my local library the other day and they had a big stand with a Save Our Libraries petition - I would have signed it only someone had nicked the pens - that's Middlesbrough for you!

  4. Ooh, yummy! I haven't made this one, but I made 5 recipes from Domestic Goddess at the weekend and had an absolute blast. (Norwegian cinnamon buns, Brownies, Madeira cake, Millionaire's shortbread, snickers and peanut butter muffins, just for the record ;)). I'll have to add this one to my list.

Hope the week goes okay. Things in Oxfordshire are very mixed but everyone is still anxious about the whole thing.

  13. That looks gorgeous! I don't dare go near Nigella recipes - the quantities of stuff she uses that I'm allergic to would probably land me up in hospital.

Hope the budget cuts affect you as little as possible. Such a shame about the Cressington flat - you could have come round for tea and cake!

I hope that all goes well at work. Libraries are so important, it's awful to think what might happen. they're closing loads in my borough and it's such a shame.
