Ruffled

Tuesday Tuesday
shoes - clarks
tights - dorothy perkins
dress - miss selfridge
cardigan - debenhams

I am on a roll posting now! I think that the blog meet up really inspired me to keep on blogging. I think that a big thing that put me off blogging was feeling the pressure to be constantly buying new clothes to blog and feeling guilty if I posted an old or recycled outfit. But to be honest, who really has the budget to showcase a new outfit every week? Especially when you're buying a house and saving money for that. I do miss the days when all of my income was just spent on clothes or rubbish sometimes, but knowing that I'll be able to own my own house and be independent is definitely more satisfying that having a new pair of shoes. I like to buy items that will last me and are versatile now. I don't go for faddy 'it' dresses that everyone wants. Take this dress for example. I bought this dress 3 years ago now and I still like to wear it. It's comfy but smart, so I can wear it for work, but it's also pretty enough that I can wear it for nights out or to dinner. The colour is also a staple colour in my wardrobe so I can mix and match it with lots of accessories.

Do you ever feel pressured into blogging 'new' things all the time? I did, but now I am accepting that I have a wardrobe bulging with lovely clothes that will last me a long, long time and I'd much rather spend my money on other things now, to be honest. That doesn't mean I'm not interested in fashion, I just have different priorities at the moment.

  1. I know others do but I don't care when people post about an outfit they've already blogged about. I think it's interesting to see how something can be worn in different ways.

  2. I'd probably be more interested how you accesorised different outfits!
I'd also love to hear about your crafts as well as your fashion posts.
    I love your blog :)

  3. Despite not being a fashion blogger I still feel a lot of pressure to constantly be wearing something new. I think I have a little bit of a shopaholic problem haha! I'm to the point now when I have to hide shopping bags from my fiancee so he doesn't tell me off.

Although at the minute I'm a little more obsessed with wallpaper for the new house!

  4. I don't think you should feel pressured to blog about anything in particular - it's your blog after all! I'd love to hear more about the house and home decoration and all that stuff!

  5. I'd way rather read an honest fashion blog that's more about how a real person wears things that just see someone showcase different outfits! Keep doing what you're doing lady!

  7. I do feel the pressure sometimes, but it's a good thing I share a blog. B and I just schedule our posts so our repeats aren't that obvious.

I actually love the fact that you use the same pieces but always in a new combination or with a little twist. That blue dress is especially wonderful. The colour calls to me...

  8. I think at times it's hard NOT to feel the pressure. However, a blog is a hobby, not a job :)

you look beautiful in blue x

  10. I just started my blog a few months ago and post whatever is interesting to me at the moment. Sometimes it's an outfit, old or new, food, and random photography. I think a blogger should post whatever is making them happy or inspiring them, even if it's an old outfit you've had for years. I think a blog should express personal style or likes then what's in fashion at the moment, unless your main focus is a fashion blog.

  12. I do think that there is some pressure but I guess it is impossible to keep buying new things...I like seeing how bloggers restyle things though :)

  13. I got really bored of my blog when I had to start budgeting, it's so hard to read blogs and not want to buy things as well! But I am happy knowing money I save goes towards our home now instead :) You look lovely x

  15. Love this dress! The colour looks so good on you :)

I don't mind if people don't always show 'new things', I don't think it's affordable to show a new outfit every couple of days...
I think it's nice to see how you remix the clothes that you really like and make different looks with them.

  17. I love that dress! And I know what you mean, there is pressure to buy new things for the sake of blogging, but I don't really find that it's my main motivation for shopping. I only buy things that I really love, and I'm guilty of wearing my favorite outfits over and over. I can justify buying something that I know will get plenty of use for a long time, but spending money on something just to wear it in a few pictures seems a bit worthless.

  18. I don't mind bloggers posting the same items of clothing- I like seeing how you mix up different pieces. You look lovely in that dress :)

  19. I always love to read about anything you choose to post about!

I hope you're having a blast embarking on this new phase of your life; it sounds exciting (and completely blog worthy)if you so desire:)

    Happy Saturday! xx

  20. I definitely know what you mean. I got to a point where I had shown pretty much all my clothes on my blog and I was suddenly stuck. I think that it made me more creative though. I had to try and wear the same clothes in a different way, or post about other things in my life. I see it as a blessing, not a curse!

  21. I'm not bothered anymore, if I don't have new things to post I post about interesting things going on in my area and places that interest me. I think a blog should be about personality and quirks not money and what you do with it :)

  22. Lummy, it's a week since we met and I've only just managed to comment! So sorry, hun.
It was a brilliant day out and thank you so much for organizing it!
There's so much to look at/read on your blog...good luck with the home buying; hope they do a series of Fashion Babylon, like they did of Hotel B; I am so in love with that black gingham dress.Fab!
    Have a great W/E,

  23. I really like seeing how bloggers remix items of clothing. That's much more practical for the way most people live. And you can always blog about other things if you feel like you've repeated an item one too many times, like what you've been baking in the kitchen!

  24. The dress is such a pretty colour! <3 I completely love it how you've paired it with such a bright cardigan too! It looks so wonderful! Be sure to enter my £100 ASOS giveaway!

  25. Wise words indeed. I'm in exactly the same place at the moment with a house move next month.
I think I prefer to see how an item can be styled in different ways rather than showcasing something new. It's about style rather than up-to-the-minute fashion for me.
Love the colour of this dress, it really suits you. x

  26. You can blog all about your new home when you move in - more fun that fashion posts! :)

  27. This is a really good point! I think that often, I know I do, us bloggers feel like there is some set of rules somewhere which dictate what makes a good outfit post etc... but I've kind of realised lately, too, that our blogs are OUR spaces for whatever we want!

I feel sometimes that a blog is more fun when its newstuff newstuff newstuff all the time, but in all honestly, who even really notices whether a top/dress/anything is new or not?

Being stylish is all about mixing things up and wearing things in cool ways, no matter how old or now. Would be sad if you stopped blogging because I've been following for a long time now!

  28. I actually really enjoy all your clothes remix posts. It shows your character and creativity. Like you said it's unrealisitic to be able to buy a new dress or pair of shoes every two days, especially when you have a new house to kit out!

That is a really cute and practical dress. It's great having clothes which you know you'll happily wear for years. I have a few skirts and dress which are between 4 and 6 years old, I still love them :)

  29. I think thats part of the reason why I don't blog that much as I always seem to be wearing the same clothes. I don't have a huge wardrobe and constantly have to recycle. I get the impression that some people don't want to see the same thing over and over again!
I love the colour of the dress, its such a gorgeous on you!

  30. I'm pleased you have your mojo back - I missed your posts! I never post outfits on my blog, but I do feel like I have to ring the changes in day to day life. Accessories are brilliant!

  31. I definitely know the feeling. I've gotten out of the habit of buying any new clothes entirely now. I even browsed sale racks and felt I didn't care. I want to save my money for being able to move. I'm much more interested in having a small closet with things I know I'm absolutely in love with, than anything I'd just wear once.

  32. miss selfridge always seems to do great dresses that don't scream the season they were bought in! love the colour of your dress, hard to find something in a great colour that's timeless too! also youtube 'vloggers' or the girls who make lookbooks do loads of remixes of outfits and different ways to wear things which i find much more inspiring than new outfits! i was going to go out and buy a new outfit for my first day at work but stopped myself, there's something about new clothes!xx
