Ship & Mitre
Did you all have a lovely weekend? I had quite a busy weekend (all weekends seem to be busy these days with this house buying lark!). Friday I went to one of our favourite pubs in Liverpool though, The Ship & Mitre. It is a real ale pub with so many different choices of real ales, European beers, fruit beers and ciders. I always try a different one each time. This week they have had a Belgian beer festival on and as one of my friends has just returned from living in Belgium for 9 months, she wanted to go to drink some of her favourite beers she can't get over here. I tried the Floris Honey beer first and it was so so amazing, really tasted of honey! Then I had a cider called 'Greensleeves', which was mint & nettle flavour. That was so delicious with ice, really refreshing. The bar man gave us a try of all the ciders too, but I think this was my favourite. Really unusual. Then, I finished off with a pint of Rosarda rose beer. I have a real sweet tooth when it comes to beer and like the fruity lighter beers, although I can be partial to a nice bitter depending on my mood.
I wore my bargainous dress, £12 from New Look! It has a really cute bow detail at the back which I love (although my bra strap does peek out from above it slightly which irritated me) and the pattern kind of reminds me of dresses I would have worn in the 90s when I was a little girl. In a good way. I thought that the dress was quite girly so I put on my killer silver shoes to jazz it up a bit.
When we were in The Ship & Mitre we pondered whether many people actually buy any non-beer/cider drinks in there. I would feel quite silly going into a pub with over 80 different beers to choose from and settling for a G&T you could get anywhere! There are so many different varieties of beers, there's something to suit everyone. Are any of you beer or real ale drinkers?

I am but you know that from my tweet - saying that, I didn't try too many new things in there, I got a bit overwhelmed and played it safe, maybe next time!
ReplyDeleteThat dress is adorable on you, you always seem to find the nicest things from new look.
I'm like you, I like the sweeter beers. With cider though, I could drink all types all day!x
ReplyDeleteThis pub sounds frankly amazing! I love the fruit ones, im always partial to Belgium beer, or dark German beer. I am a cider drinker by heart though and the one you described sounds out of this world! xxx
ReplyDeletethat's such a pretty dress! Greetings from Belgium! :)
ReplyDeleteWaw, what a nice dress. I love the combination with the killer heels!
ReplyDeleteI do love a nice fruity beer... cannot imagine you drinking a pint of bitter though! The ones you tried sound delicious.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress with those amazing shoes!
I have never really tried real ale but I don't think I would like it. I really love cider though!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful dress! x
ReplyDeleteIs that dress the one that's just been in the sale? I was SO tempted by it but thought it was just a bit too white for me in the end. I'd only have tipped coffee all over it or something equally idiotic.
ReplyDeleteI don't like proper beer at all but I discovered in Bruges that I rather like the fruity beer. Any type of cider is good with me though!
Love the dress - looks great with the shoes. We have a micro-brewery here (Brewdog) which does loads of fab ales and beers. One of the local restaurants stocks their brews and lists on the menu which go well with which dish. I tend to have a girlie half, but find even their lagers a bit hop-y for me!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fab pub, I love cider and really miss living in the westcountry where I got more opportunity to drink it.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is absolutely beautiful by the way - what a bargain!
I LOVE the Ship and Mitre. Was there today, you have to try the Fruli strewberry beer, mmmm.
ReplyDeleteLovely dress :)
What a gorgeous dress! I can't believe it was that price, what a bargain. Those shoes are stunning too.
ReplyDeleteI'm a beer drinker! Where I live in New Zealand has tonnes of boutique breweries and specialist beer stores, and even my local supermarket has a massive section dedicated to craft beers, it's so dreamy! I'm a pale ale girl, although fruit beers are never lost on me. My favourite beer ever is an organic IPA with apricot undertones, too delicious. In one of my entries (here http://thevelvettes.blogspot.com/2011/05/bear-with-me.html ) you can see a little beer-seeking adventure that I took around the countryside with my boyfriend.
I love beer! When I was a teenager all the girls hated beer but before I'd even tried it, I decided I would like it. and I did! now lots of those girls like it too.
ReplyDeletethere's a pub here (in sydney) called the Australia and they have over 100 types of beer, I think about 60 of them are australian beers. I always wonder how many people order the imported beers, in a pub called The Australian, which is basically right under the sydney harbour bridge, and serves almost every kind of australian beer there is. I'd feel bad!
I do love german beers though! luckily we have a couple of big german pubs for that too.
Oh, that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat is one cool dress! :) I found a chocolate beer that was quite nice at one of the classier liquor shops in town, can't say I usually go for beer when I'm out though, it's usually cocktails! Especially mojito's....

I do like light beers and ciders too. I actually don't drink that often, but when I do, I love to go to pubs that have lots to choose from. Your silver shoes are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteI love it whenever those shoes pop up in one of your posts! xx
ReplyDeleteOh I love that dress :) I so wanted it but my local new look only had one damaged one in stock :(
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit on you, those heels are insane! I love cider but HATE beer and ale...bleurgh!
ReplyDeleteMaria xxx
I like how you rock the dress, I am sure on me it wouldn't look that nice.
ReplyDeleteLove love love it.
Everytime I visit your blog you make me want to move back to Liverpool Bad woman, bad woman.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress! Wow awesome pub, Aled (boyf) loves real ale, he would love it there.
ReplyDeleteI like berry flavoured beers, but not really any other fruits. Weird! Though I do like cider and pear cider. My favourite pub doesn't have many fruity beers, but they do cherry Timmermans, which is good enough for me! They also do an absolutely knockout moonshine cider, it's ridiculously strong and tastes hideous!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress. Your shoes look so high! The heels look like they're half the size of your calf!
That's such a pretty dress! I'm a teetotaler so I'm definitely not a beer/ale drinker at all.

Honey beer sounds extremely summery. I quite like the Fruuli(sp?)strawberry lager they sell at Cafe Rouge; but I have a slurp of Mr Bs' and I have the Citron Presse.
ReplyDeleteI guess G&T in the summer and Whiskey in the winter are my faves. Champers ANY TIME, darling!
Boy, those are some killer heels! I love the scoop neck at the back, very pretty. I didn't notice any bra bits showing!
Z xx
Yum, I'd try some fruity beers too!
ReplyDeleteAnd I adore your dress, particularly the back!
What a lovely dress! And the Shitre used to be my local when I lived in the Pool. My boyfriend is really into real ale, so spending time with him has got me into it too. Most real ales don't have all the chemicals and preservatives you get in mass produced beer, so I find that my head doesn't hurt the next day.
ReplyDeleteUm, 12 pounds? Yes please! What a fantastic bargain for that gorgeous dress! And I actually love those silver heels, I can't wait to get something silver or sparkly this autumn, Topshop are bringing a whole line of things :)
ReplyDeletethat dress is absolutely gorgeous! Whats that cupcake thing?
ReplyDeletethat's a gorgeous dress! Why don't you write a few posts on the house buying process/what to do/what not to do? I wouldn't have a clue where to start and am interested in how things are going for you?! X
