Helping You Find Healthy

Happy new year everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying 2013 so far. As soon as I had rung in the new year, I started thinking about my aims for the next 12 months. In September, I will be getting married to Scott and going on honeymoon. In March, I'll be running my first half marathon (10 weeks to go!), so it seems like a year that staying fit and healthy will be vital.  My training for the half marathon has begun in earnest and I'm also trying to eat more fruit and veg after the lack of vitamin intake over the holidays! Does anyone else find themselves prioritising themselves at the start of the new year?

Bupa has launched a new website full of lots of apps to help you focus, called 'Bupa find healthy'. On there, you can get advice on diabetes, nutritional advice, sleep information, etc. I tried the health age calculator and apparently my health age is only 19, rather than 24! I could get this down even lower if I wanted to, but I find it important to have a good life balance too. I'd have to exercise 5 days a week which is too much for me to fit into my schedule so I think I'll stay happy at being 5 years younger on my health age!

I've also been enjoying the running Bupa apps to help me build on my training. If you're thinking of starting running in the New Year, why not try to find healthy with some free Bupa tools. They have training plans for every level, so whether you feel like you can't even run for the bus or whether you're looking for the next challenge to push yourself, there are plans to suit everyone. I'm hoping that it will help me through my training and I will have many more great running moments throughout 2013! It is 10 weeks to go until my half marathon and at the moment it seems like such a big, scary, impossible thing, I need all the help and advice I can get.

Anyone else have any health resolutions for the new year? Drink less alcohol, run more, eat more veg? Let me know!

  1. I took the real age quiz, but it kept telling me that I'd live longer if I quit smoking even though I told it I quit smoking ten years ago... hmmmm

  2. I would love to start running, but I'm so hopeless at self-motivation that in the past when I've tried, I've only managed a few streets before turning back and heading home. I am fine with swimming and can get my usual time down if I try hard, and other than that I stick to classes because I find I'm competitive enough to work hard against others.
    I should probably eat healthier.
Other than that my resolutions are jsut to be more organised, to read a book per week, and make a garment per month.

  3. This looks great. I said 2013 was going to be the year I took better care of myself, and whilst I'm nowhere near a half marathon I'd like to tackle a 5 or even 10k this year. Off to go and work out my health age now :)
